The name Maracuja comes from the Amazon, where it refers to the Passion fruit. Its biological name is Passiflora edulis. The seeds of this fruit are rich in oil, and when extracted, this is termed as maracuja oil. The fruit, is harvested for consumption. Maracuja Oil is a by-product of the harvest.

  • The effect of passion fruit, the fruit of Passiflora edulis , on melanin inhibition and collagen synthesis was studied using cultured human melanoma and fibroblast cells. Treatment of melanoma cells with Passion Fruit seed led to inhibition of melanogenesis. In addition, the production of total soluble collagen was elevated in dermal fibroblast cells cultured in the presence of PF-S. Passion fruit seeds were found to be beneficial to the treatment of melanoma cells, and led to inhibition of melanogenesis
